Irving Art Association Annual Awards Exhibit Rules

The annual juried exhibit will be held in both the East and West Galleries at the JayCee Park Center for the Arts. Entry is open to IAA members only. The reception and awards will usually be held on the first Sunday in May from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Center. Winners will be displayed in our online Gallery.

ELIGIBILITY

Members in good standing for the current year are eligible to enter the competition. Members who have joined 90 days before the beginning of the competition are eligible.

CATEGORIES

Artists may choose any subject except one which would be offensive in the estimation of the Show Committee. The categories are as follows:

  • Oil, Pastel, Acrylic on Canvas
  • Aquamedia on Paper
  • Graphics and Photography AND Mixed Media
  • 3-Dimensional (Includes Pottery, China Painting, Sculpture,
Weaving, Stained Glass - within Fine Arts category)

There must be at least 12 items in each category to be judged separately for awards. An artist may submit a total of 5 pieces, with a limit of 3 for any one category.

ORIGINAL WORK

All entries must be original, defined as follows: An original is made from the artist's own thoughts, sketches, imagination or from photographs made by the artist. No part of the art work may be taken from another artist's painting, print, or any other publication.

If a well-known scene is entered; the artist may wish to attach a sketch, snapshot or slide picture. No molds or kits may be used in 3-dimensional work. Work done in class or workshop is not considered original.

Entries must have been produced within the past two years and not previously entered in an Irving Art Association Annual Awards Competition.

DIMENSIONS

Work must be framed (when suitable), Plexiglas only (no glass), tagged with identification card, screw eyes set into frame, wired for hanging, unless work is sculpture, or similar, which will be set on a sculpture stand. Paintings, including frames, should not be over 50 inches in either dimension. Oils may be submitted as wrap arounds rather than framed. The edges must be at least one inch deep and must be painted with no staples showing. These must also be wired for hanging with screw eyes (set into frame) and wire. (Webmaster's note: Pastels may be framed under glass.)

CARE OF ENTRIES

Care will be taken in handling of work, but Irving Art Association and the City of Irving assume no responsibility in cases of loss or damage. Insurance, if desired, should be carried by the artist. All work must remain on display until show closes.
